Course Goal

The Sun Fire Mid-Range Server Maintenance Course is a 4-day technical training course that will prepare students to operate, configure and maintain the Sun Fire server product line.

Audience

This course is intended for field service and support personnel

Training Methodology

This course uses active learning to involve the student in their classroom learning and to develop practices that will encourage continuous self-learning. Students will meet the learning objectives through interactive classroom discussion, focused hands-on lab exercises, self-guided research, and scenario-based troubleshooting.

Course Prerequisites

Akibia's Ultra Enterprise Server Maintenance Course or equivalent experience with Sun systems is required.

Course Objectives

Upon completion, students will be able to:

  • Identify Sun Fire Server models and key features
  • Describe and differentiate Sun Fire architectures and components
  • Remove and replace server components
  • Install Solaris and configure multiple system domains
  • Analyze power-on/boot sequence and identify errors
  • Configure, retrieve and interpret POST, SCPOST, LPOST and diagnostic menus and routines
  • Execute Open Boot PROM (OBP) and Nonvolatile RAM (NVRAM) commands specific to Sun Fire Servers
  • Use GUI and command line commands to obtain server status and configuration information
  • Operate Sun Management Center in a Sun Fire environment
  • Isolate server hardware faults to the FRU using LEDs and diagnostic tools
  • Research component part numbers and replace faulty FRUs
  • Access an appropriate server via Remote System Console or Lights Out Management

Class size is limited to six students.
