Monitoring Via the Cloud
Akibia has suggested before on this blog that many of the solutions that vendors bill as Cloud Computing offerings, fall short of the cloud in some way. There are three basic tenets to a cloud solution – infrastructure, application and access. Few cloud computing solutions on the market today actually achieve all three. Some that do are email and calendaring, CRM software as a service, and remote monitoring.
While things like Google Mail and Salesforce have received considerable coverage remote monitoring delivered via the cloud has had lesser billing. Cloud-based remote monitoring offers all the conventional benefits of an in-house monitoring solution – proactive notification of system failures which leads to improved up-time and availability – with the added benefits of cloud computing – lower overhead costs, anywhere access to the solution, and access to expert support.
While monitoring the cloud—how solutions are running in the cloud- has received significant traction and industry buzz, remote monitoring via the cloud should not be overlooked either. Whether applications are running internally at a dedicated data center or “in the cloud” companies need to be able to monitor infrastructure and applications and ensure reliability and performance.
Are you considering leveraging monitoring solutions via the cloud?
Robert Klotz will present on "The Hype and Reality of Cloud Computing- What to Do First" at Data Connectors Sacramento on December 10.
